Manorhamilton Health Board Head Quarters
LMN07
INSPIRATION
Built on the site of an old famine graveyard this build was controversial to begin with. The old fever hospital remains to the side of this new build and a memorial to the victims of the famine who were buried in that plot was erected.
TYPE OF HOUSE
Office space for the newly formed North West Health Service
POINT OF INTEREST
The whole area around the building offers an amazing contrast of history and modernity with the old fever hospital still standing, the modern famine memorial and the new HSE Head quarters.
The architects, Taylor Architects, Castlebar won an award for their famine memorial.
The structure for the building was quite complicated especially the conference room as it stands on 3 sloping columns. The whole structure was designed by Stephan McInerney of Concannon with Heavey Kenny Associates of Galway carrying out the Mechanical & Electrical building work.

CREATIVE ELEMENTS
Highly modern build, curvaceous shape bluges out over the entrance with a green-blue copper exterior. Set back from the road it does not dominate the area yet at the same time stands out in contrast to the surrounding builds in the centre of Manorhamilton.
